WHAT IS WALKING FOOTBALL?

Walking football is a rapidly developing area of the beautiful game for those over 50.

It is a unique small-sided ball game created by John Croot in 2011.

Recognised as a great way of improving overall health and fitness for those of older years with its combination of physical and mental activity, together with improving their social contacts.  In doing so, this supports the principle of 'Active Ageing' by adding to the health and wellbeing of all those whom play.

It has many similarities to the Football you know, which makes it a great sport and activity. It is the beautiful game you love but played in a new way.

There is no running. Walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run or jog, with the ball or off the ball.

You may ‘walk’ as fast as you want with one foot in contact with the ground at all times. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no contact.

Think of 5 or 6-a-side football, and then imagine playing it without running, but walking.  Add in the absence of robust tackling and you'll have a good idea of Walking Football.
