YUFC 8-0 Chinnor Reserves
After the tough cup game last week, the team were looking forward to putting in another good performance and importantly get back to winning ways.
Rain for the day helped with the unevenness of the pitch and the skiddy surface certainly helped Yateley play their football. Some early chances were promising, Brown coming close with a header and Myles White with a lovely volley hitting the post. Various chances went wide and Currey pulled off a fine save at the other end.
Yateley finally got what they deserved after 20 mins when White latched onto a long kick from Currey and finished with ease. Old boy Readi made it 2–0 with a fine lob over the oncoming Chinnor keeper. Within a minute, Sharpe somehow jigged his way through a number of defenders to set Russell up for the third. By now Yateley were firmly in control and creating chance after chance.
Gosling had a long range shot which skidded under the goalkeeper for four and soon, after a lovely cross field ball from Gibbons, set Russell free who laid back for White to get his second. He could have scored his hatrick 30 seconds later but put a good chance wide.
The second half started the way the first finished, with Yateley now in complete control and creating chances at will. Within the first 5 minutes, Gosling brought a great save from the Chinnor goalkeeper; Captain Wilcox headed wide and King headed over twice from good positions, before Myles White completed his hatrick by cutting in from the left hand side. After 15 minutes, Read celebrated his birthday with a second and the unlikely hatrick was on. The chance arose when good work from Sharpe set Readi up with the perfect opportunity but the goalkeeper pulled off a fine save. White scored his fourth straight after which proved to be the last goal of the game.
The score could have been a lot more if the chances had been taken and certainly in the last 20 minutes when they lost their patterns of play and structure.
Overall, a really good performance with some sharp passing and movement showed that Yateley can play some excellent football. The performance stemmed from the assured defending and football played out from the back four of Wilcox, Brown, Thomas and Sharpe who set the tone of the good play.
A good win which moves YUFC up to 7th in the league after earning 9 points from the first 5 games.
Our next fixture is at home on 13th October 2018 as we face a currently undefeated Langley F.C. in the league.
